    Irradiation services in India

GemsPride provides industrial irradiation services across India using electron beam (E-beam) technology - sterilization, polymer cross-linking, gemstone colour enhancement and material modification, delivered through a vetted pan-India partner network.

    01

    What is irradiation processing?

Irradiation is the controlled exposure of a product to ionising radiation. Depending on the dose, it sterilizes the product, strengthens polymers, or permanently changes the colour of a gemstone - all without heat, chemicals or residue.

Industrial irradiation can be done with gamma rays, X-rays or accelerated electrons. GemsPride's irradiation services use electron beam (E-beam) irradiation: an electricity-powered accelerator delivers a measured dose, expressed in kilogray (kGy), in seconds.

    • No radioactive source - the beam switches off like a light.
    • Dose delivered in seconds, not hours.
    • Irradiated products do not become radioactive.
    • No chemicals, no residue, no airing-out time.
    Dose, not heat

The effect of irradiation is set by the absorbed dose, not by temperature. A low dose sterilizes; a higher dose cross-links polymers; a tailored dose produces a specific gemstone colour. Our team works out the right dose for your product, then verifies it on a trial lot before routine processing.

    Electron beam vs gamma irradiation

Both methods deliver ionising radiation, but they differ in source, speed and how they treat your material. Here is how E-beam irradiation compares with gamma irradiation for industrial processing.

    AspectE-beam irradiationGamma irradiation
Radiation sourceElectricity-powered accelerator - no radioactive isotopeCobalt-60 radioactive source
Treatment timeSeconds to minutes per batchHours per batch
Effect on plasticsShort exposure - less discolouration and embrittlementLong exposure - more oxidative degradation
PenetrationIdeal for low-to-medium density products and packsDeeper penetration for dense, palletised loads
ControlSwitches on and off instantly; dose set electronicallySource is always active; dose set by exposure time
ResidueNone - no chemicals, product does not become radioactiveNone - product does not become radioactive

Where deep penetration of dense, palletised loads is essential, we tell you honestly - our team assesses product density and pack configuration before quoting, so you get the irradiation method that actually fits.

    05

    How our irradiation services work

    01

    Product assessment

We review your material, product density and pack configuration to confirm irradiation is the right fit and to pick the best partner facility.

    02

    Dose setting & trial

The required dose is agreed - sterilization, cross-linking or colour - and verified on a feasibility lot before routine processing.

    03

    Routine irradiation

Your goods are irradiated at the agreed time at the nearest partner facility, with dose delivered uniformly from edge to edge.

    04

    Documentation & dispatch

Each batch is checked and released with its processing documentation - ready to ship, with no quarantine period.

    06

    Dose control, quality and safety

    Dose control

Every batch is irradiated to the agreed dose and checked for uniformity from edge to edge.

    Material protection

We assess your material upfront so the irradiation dose never degrades your product.

    Regulatory alignment

Irradiation sterilization follows international standards for radiation sterilization and quality management.

    07

Irradiation services - frequently asked questions

    Q.01

    What are irradiation services?

Irradiation services expose a product to a precisely controlled dose of ionising radiation to sterilize it or change its material properties - without heat or chemicals. GemsPride delivers irradiation services across India using electron beam (E-beam) technology through a vetted partner facility network.

    Q.02

Is electron beam irradiation the same as E-beam processing?

Yes. Electron beam irradiation, E-beam processing and E-beam treatment all describe the same technology: a stream of accelerated electrons delivers a measured dose to the product. The dose is expressed in kilogray (kGy) and is set to suit your product and objective.

    Q.03

    Do irradiated products become radioactive?

No. Electron beam irradiation at commercial energies does not induce radioactivity. Products are safe to handle and ship immediately after treatment, and there is no chemical residue or quarantine period.

    Q.04

What is the difference between E-beam and gamma irradiation?

Both deliver ionising radiation, but E-beam uses an electricity-powered accelerator while gamma uses a Cobalt-60 radioactive source. E-beam treats products in seconds rather than hours, which is gentler on plastics, and it can be switched off instantly. Gamma penetrates deeper, so it suits dense, palletised loads. We assess your product's density and packaging to confirm E-beam is the right fit.

    Q.05

    Which products can be irradiated?

Medical devices and disposables, pharmaceutical packaging, labware, wire and cable, heat-shrink tubing, PEX pipe, moulded polymer parts, semiconductors, and gemstones such as Topaz, Diamond and Quartz. If your product is not listed, send us the material and pack details and we will confirm feasibility.

    Q.06

Where in India are irradiation services available?

Through our partner facility network, GemsPride coordinates irradiation services for manufacturers across India, including the Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad industrial regions. Goods are routed to the partner facility closest to your plant.

    Q.07

How much do irradiation services cost in India?

Pricing depends on product volume, required dose, product density and pack configuration. Share your product details through our contact form and our technical team will respond within 24 business hours with a clear quote.
